| Do you like to dream? |
The first chapter probably led more questions than answers to get you hooked. Cliffhangers are a bitch ain't it?
When I made Phantom's Peak it was inspired by multiple things both IRL and other media. I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not a huge horror buff, I'm more of a sci-fi guy. There are horror films and games I like and own in my personal collection such as Alien, Silent Hill, and Saw. But I've always to make my own spin on the genre.
For years I have tried to conceive a good horror story, I wanted to take place in a old school haunted house, I sounds cliché but I like the old concept and wanted to make my own spin on it. However, after months of brainstorming, I gave up for a couple years.
But how the whole thing started was when I watched an anime on Adult Swim, called Housing Complex C. About a girl and her family move in into apartment complex, befriends another girl, and strange things start happening (heavy Lovecraft influence). I liked the plot and twists, but I was let down because it ended only after 3 episodes.
That show gave me the lighting bulb on my head. So, I went back to the drawing board and wrote some ideas. Deconstructed everything on what I liked it and everything flawed with the show. It's not a direct copy mind you (I'm not a hack), the show gave me a blueprint for my story, I just fill in the blanks with my own experiences.
I was born and raised in Virginia and used to travel at the mountains a lot. Virginia modern problems that I wanted to show in the story (not in a preachy way, I'm not a fan of self insert like how Millennials do). So your gonna see a lot of Virginian flare in the rest of the story.
In real life, I have experienced paranormal activity that was freaky. My parents new house built in the Virginian woods in the middle of nowhere was when we all moved in we started to hear footsteps all the time (sounded like cowboy boots). Our young dogs began barking aggressively (showing teeth) at empty spaces with was very unusual. My mother's kitchen cabinets that are magnetically shut (that requires an effort to pull) be game to open by themselves, with my mother witnessing it. We also heard peaking at the walls like a knock with your knuckles.
Then my parents started seeing a person quickly walking through the hallway, almost giving them a heart attack. The only time I saw something was a reflection (on the fridge) of someone approaching me from behind which was spooky.
Over time I get progressively worse, that we had to call our pastor to bless the house. And yeah, he started to hear the sounds that gave him chills.
After he blessed the house, the entity finally went away.
To this very day, we're not sure what it was. We think we probably disturbed an old burial ground when the foundation of our basement was made. With no evidence of bones, it's most likely an very native American burial ground before the Europeans arrived. But there was another theory as there used to be people living around the area with rock foundations everywhere in the forests, and my very sharp great grandmother (RIP) mentioned it many times. So, who knows what it was, a restless soul, a demon, a transparent being from another reality, or something we don't fully understand yet. In my opinion, I think it was a restless ghost. Since the bless may its soul rest in peace.
Another related weird story, on elementary school when class was getting ready. We saw this girl, Bethany, who we all know, was entering the class went to her desk to get something and walked out. Before class starts the other students have breakfast, most of us don't go so we wouldn't get behind at our work.
Breakfast was over, everyone came back in. But we were wondering were Bethany was. There were multiple witnesses including me who saw her. The teachers got a little worried so they checked the cafeteria, girls bathroom, and all over the school. She wasn't know were to be found., which made all of us classmates puzzled and concerned.
But in a surprising twist, the teachers called her parents. Her parents said that Bethany never went to school the first place because she was feeling sick this morning. Puzzled by this revelation, we were all wondering who that other "Bethany" was. There were 5 witnesses including me who saw her that morning. It was super weird.
Your probably thinking, maybe it was somebody else who looks like her? It was highly doubtful because she was a very unique individual physically because of her big lips, short, and unique long hair style (she's White). Actually, all of us classmates weren't generic and we all knew each other, we even knew the other grades below us.
That was a very weird day, and I still think about it from time to time.
I can somethings are just left better u explained. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As for the next chapter it will be released on Nov 27! What did Aron see? Find out next month!
